Remember to return all your library books to school. Please return any school journals and reading books to school.

There will not be any spelling words sent home this week. Students will have short sharp lessons on spelling this week in class as revision.
All students have free access to Spelling City for 30 days. Take advantage of this opportunity. It has some excellent resources for reading and writing also.
READING:
Read

as newspapers, fiction (make-believe), non-fiction (true), journals and chapter
books.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FREE READING PROGRAMME AT THE LIBRARY OVER SUMMER.
This is available at the Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North libraries.
Registrations open this week so get in quick!
MATHS:
We are learning about PROBABILITY in maths. Visit IXL to practise the probability questions.
Keep learning your basic facts too - Remember if you know the basic facts in maths, this helps you enormously when you need to use your strategies!

Please read for 10 minutes + your age each day.
Use the online maths sites that will support your maths learning - IXL Maths, Studyladder and Mathsbuddy please.

We have our Team Mass on Friday 27 November @ 9:15a.m. Room 4 is organising this Mass. A donation of a non-persihable food item would be appreciated if able. Thank you.

Camp Akitio 2015
Room 4 students have just returned form Camp Akitio.
Although the first day was a little cool (to say the least), we braved the elements and explored the rocky shore and built scuptures using the driftwood on the beach.
We had fantastic weather on day 2 when we visited the sand dunes and a 148 year-old woodshed.

We had a fantastic group of parents on camp with us. They were all very supportive and participated in events alongside the students.
We are very grateful for their help.

Harold's Healthy Lunchbox Competition
Today Lachlan, Matthew, Neila and Sammy-Lee particpated in the Harold's Healthy Lunchbox Competition at the Sports Park in Hastings. It was organised by the Life Education Foundation. They came second in the competition. They worked well as a team too.
Here they are with Jax Hamilton who judged the competition.
Their lunch menu included basil pesto hummus with crackers and carrot sticks, pita pockets stuffed with salad ingredients, chicken and cranberry, and fruit and marshmallows kebabs served with vanilla yoghurt. YUM!!!
Room 4 Camp
It is just about room 4's turn to go on camp.
We are all very excited and looking forward to the experience.
We have lots of parents to help us on camp and we are fortunate to have their support.
Some of the things we will be doing at camp Akitio include:
- A visit to the rocky shore
- Sandcastle and driftwood sculpture competition
- A visit to a VERY old and historic woodshed which is still in use - we may see some sheep being shawn
- A visit to the sand dunes which is like our own private beach retreat
- Down time spent with our friends, team building activities and games
- A visit to the playground and domain in Dannevirke
- A swim at the pools in Waipukurau on the way home …

Congratulations to our room 4 talented authors and illustrators
Alice and Riley were winners in the annual St Mary's Book Awards.
Riley won the prize for Senior Illustrator.
Alice won the prize for the Fiction Book category.
Well done to Jordan, Neila and Jacob who were runners up in their entries.
Jacob and Jordan were illustrators, and Neila wrote a book.
All their work has been published and is now part of our library collection. Thank you to Mrs Greaney, our school librarian, who reads all the entries and works with authors to edit their work before publishing.
