Candidate Teachers @ St Mary's School

This year we have 5 Candidate Teachers from the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) working at our school. The children are enjoying having the teachers in our classes. They are at our school for 2 days each week.

Today they spent part of the afternoon working with children from rooms 4 & 5 in groups to do some PE. This was an opportunity for them to get to know the students. They will have follow up lessons with the same children for the next few weeks.

Working in Groups

There is a lot to learn about a new classroom at the beginning of the year. We have been talking about how to work in a learning group well. During Religious Education we worked in groups to brainstorm ideas about a person's prayer journey through their life. We worked well together and came up with some good ideas.  Then we shared these ideas in class.

The students worked in groups to decide on this list when they work in a group together.  These are very  important rules to think about when working in a group learning situation.
This is the room 4 class treaty.  The students worked in groups to decide which rules should be in their class treaty.

Art in Action

The students are settling into room 4 very well.

At the start of the year we often draw a self portrait to display in our classroom. We have been using ideas from the famous artist Picasso to draw our self portrait this year.

We started today and will work on finishing them tomorrow. Here are some photos of students' work. I am looking forward to seeing their finished work.
A great start Elliot.
I like the rainbow effect Alyx.
Very creative Sione.
Great detail Riley.
Interesting additions Isaac.
